AnchoredIP vs Wiredoor

These are not two versions of the same product, and comparing them feature by feature would mislead you. Wiredoor is software you run; AnchoredIP is address space we lease you. If you are choosing between them, it is usually because you have not yet worked out which half of the problem you actually have.

Wiredoor is a self-hosted, Apache-2.0 ingress platform built on WireGuard: it routes internet traffic to services on private networks — internal apps, IoT devices, a Kubernetes cluster — without opening ports. You supply the server, the domain and the public IP address it answers on. It is free, and if you already have all three it is a good answer.

We supply the third of those. An IPv4 address announced from our own AS41800, delivered over WireGuard to machines you already run, from $19 a month. Nothing to operate, and nothing that stops you running Wiredoor behind it.

The question that actually decides it

Ask what you would hand a partner who says “send us the IP and we will allowlist it”. If you already have an answer you are happy to have printed in somebody else’s firewall for the next three years, you need software, and Wiredoor is free.

If your honest answer is the address of a cloud instance you might rebuild, or one you would lose by changing provider, then the address is the problem and no tunnel software fixes it. That is the case we are for.

Running both is normal. Wiredoor on a machine holding one of our addresses gives you its ingress features on space that is ours to announce and yours to keep — including reverse DNS, which a cloud provider will often not delegate to you at all.

Questions people ask first

Is Wiredoor a competitor?
Not really, and the page would be more useful to you if we say so plainly. Wiredoor is the software that moves traffic through a tunnel. We lease the public address the traffic comes out of. If you run Wiredoor you still need a server with a stable public IP for it to live on, and that is the thing we sell.
Can I use both together?
Yes, and it is a reasonable setup. Point Wiredoor at a machine holding one of our addresses and you get its ingress features on address space that is announced from our AS and stays yours if you rebuild the machine or change hosting provider.
When is Wiredoor alone the better choice?
When you already have a server with a public address you are happy with, and what you want is to expose internal services through it. That is the problem it is built for, it is free, and paying us for an address you already have would be paying twice.
When does the address have to come from somewhere else?
When the address is the deliverable rather than the plumbing — a partner has asked for one entry to allowlist, a payment processor or a bank wants a fixed origin, or you need the identity to survive changing hosting provider. A cloud instance address belongs to the cloud, so it ends when the instance does; ours is announced from our own AS41800 and follows the lease rather than the machine.
How much does the address cost?
$19 a month for one dedicated IPv4, unmetered, and up to 2 machines behind it. Published price, no quote to request. There is a seven-day trial on a real address if you would rather test than take our word.
